The demand to rename Mohammadwadi village, located in the Hadapsar area of Pune district in Maharashtra, to 'Mahadevwadi' has once again gained momentum. This demand has been raised by Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA Bharat Gogawale. He has requested Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde to seriously consider this proposal. Gogawale stated that this is not a new demand but has been consistently raised since 1996, but no concrete decision has been made yet.
Support from Local Leaders and Organizations
Since the introduction of this proposal for name change, political and social debate has intensified in the region. Many local organizations and leaders have supported this initiative, while some groups have also expressed concerns about it being given a communal color. Currently, there has been no official statement from the state government on this matter, but discussions about it have intensified in social media and political circles.
Shiv Sena Leader's Announcement on Social Media
Shiv Sena's Pune city chief, Pramod (Nana) Bhangire, further fueled the issue by posting on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He wrote, "Mohammadwadi will now be Mahadevwadi. Shiv Sena MLA Bharat Gogawale has urged Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to change the name of the village. Jai Maharashtra, Jai Shri Ram." After this post, the stir in the region has intensified further.
It is noteworthy that this demand for a change in the village's name has been going on for almost three decades, but now, with the Shinde faction becoming active, the issue has once again come into the limelight.
