Possibility of Rain in Delhi-NCR between August 9th and 13th
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall in Delhi and surrounding areas between August 9th and 13th. However, the sky will remain cloudy throughout Friday, but the sharp sun can trouble people in the afternoon. Monsoon is expected to become somewhat active by the end of this week, which is expected to bring relief.
Rain Warning in Several North Indian States
The Meteorological Department has also issued a forecast of light to moderate rainfall in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. There is also a warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning in some places in these areas. Some parts of Punjab and Haryana have recently received rain, which has led to a drop in temperature.
Gurdaspur recorded 71.5 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Mohali, Pathankot, Rupnagar, Faridkot, and Patiala also recorded good rainfall. The minimum temperature in Amritsar was 24.5°C, one degree below normal, while Mohali recorded 23.8°C, two degrees below normal. This rain has brought relief to the farmers and has cooled the atmosphere.
Red Alert in Uttarakhand, Kedarnath Yatra Suspended
Due to continuous heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand for the past few days, the situation is becoming serious. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert, which indicates the possibility of very heavy rainfall in an area. In view of this situation, the administration has temporarily suspended the Kedarnath Yatra. Madmaheshwar Yatra has also been postponed.
The state government has directed the local administration to remain vigilant and deploy rescue teams. Incidents of landslides and road blockages may also occur in hilly areas.
Heavy Rain Continues in West Bengal
The monsoon is fully active in the eastern Indian states as well. Heavy rain is likely to continue in the sub-Himalayan regions of West Bengal until August 12. In particular, heavy rainfall is expected in districts such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar. At the same time, there is a possibility of good rainfall in the plains districts like North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia till August 8. This monsoon can prove beneficial for the farmers and water sources of Bengal.
