Deoria (U.P.) — Police arrested a wanted criminal in the Salempur police station area of the district. After his arrest, the accused attempted to snatch a police officer's service pistol, tried to escape, and fired shots. In retaliatory action, the accused was shot in his right leg and subsequently admitted to the hospital.
Police arrested the accused, Rajesh Yadav (Jagdishpur, Ambedkar Nagar), in the evening based on information from an informant. While being taken for treatment, the accused feigned stomach pain, seized the opportunity, snatched the SSI's pistol, and fled while firing at the police.
Police pursued him on Chakrwa–Bahordas Road and fired back, hitting the accused in the leg. The injured accused has been referred from the Community Health Center to the Medical College.
The accused had been wanted for a long time and had a case registered against him under the Gangster Act at the police station. A service pistol, one spent cartridge, and seven live rounds have been recovered from the crime scene.
