Deoria (U.P.) — In Banaiyani village, under Rudrapur Kotwali of the district, a 15-year-old girl was about to be married to a 40-year-old man, which was stopped midway by a team that arrived on the spot after receiving information.
According to the incident, preparations for the minor girl's marriage with the 40-year-old man, who had come from Maharashtra, were underway in a temple, including the Haldi ritual. The Women's Welfare Department, Child Welfare Committee, and police reached the spot, and the girl has been safely transferred to a One Stop Center.
The District Probation Officer stated that the case is a direct undesirable incident under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, and preparations are being made to file a case for further action.
This incident indicates that challenges still persist in preventing child marriage, especially in rural areas where socio-economic pressures are more prevalent.
