Ingredients Required

For the Main Mixture

  • Bread slices – 8 (edges removed)
  • All-purpose flour (Maida) – 2 tablespoons
  • Semolina (Suji) – 2 tablespoons
  • Yogurt (Dahi) – 2 tablespoons
  • Vinegar – 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar – ½ cup
  • Baking soda – 1 teaspoon
  • Baking powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Salt – ¼ teaspoon
  • Raisins (Kishmish) – 20
  • Butter – ¼ cup
  • Milk – ¼ cup

For Greasing the Tin

  • Butter – As needed
  • All-purpose flour (Maida) – 1 teaspoon

For Garnishing & Chocolate Topping

  • Cocoa powder or Bournvita – 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar – 1 teaspoon (omit if using Bournvita)
  • Dairy Milk Chocolate – 3 (broken into small pieces)
  • Milk – ½ cup
  • Cashews – for decoration

Instructions

1. Prepare the Bread Batter

First, cut the bread slices into small pieces and put them in a mixer jar. Add all-purpose flour, semolina, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Blend all the dry ingredients once in the mixer so that they mix well.

Now add yogurt, vinegar, milk, and butter and whisk for two minutes. This will form a smooth and slightly thick batter. Keep it aside for 10 minutes so that the semolina swells and the batter becomes spongy.

2. Stove Top Baking Setup

Now take a deep, heavy-bottomed pan, spread a layer of salt in it, and place a stand. Cover the pan and preheat on medium heat for 10 minutes. During this time, grease the cake tin well with butter and dust it with a little all-purpose flour, then shake off the excess.

Now pour the prepared batter into the cake tin and sprinkle raisins on top. Place the tin in the preheated pan, cover with a lid, and bake on medium heat for 30 minutes. After 25 minutes, check once by inserting a toothpick – if it comes out clean, the cake is ready; otherwise, bake for another 5–10 minutes.

3. Cool the Cake

Once the cake is baked, turn off the gas and take the tin out. Let it cool at room temperature. Once cooled, carefully remove the cake from the tin.

4. Prepare the Chocolate Topping

Now put cocoa powder (or Bournvita) and 1 teaspoon of sugar in a pan. Add milk and the broken chocolate pieces. Place on the gas on low heat and cook while stirring continuously. Keep stirring until the chocolate is completely melted and a thick mixture is formed. When this topping becomes slightly thick, turn off the gas.

5. Decoration and Serving

Now spread this chocolate topping evenly over the prepared cake. Garnish with chopped cashews or your favorite dry fruits on top. Refrigerate for a while so that the topping sets.

Special Tips

  • If you don't have an oven, this stove top method is perfect.
  • It is important to remove the edges of the bread, this makes the batter smooth.
  • If you want a healthy version, you can use brown bread.
  • If you are using Bournvita, there is no need to add sugar.
