Following a series of poor performances in the 2025-26 Ashes series, the England cricket team is now embroiled in a new controversy. After losing the first three Tests, several players have been accused of excessive alcohol consumption.

Sports News: The England cricket team is facing fresh scrutiny after a consistent run of poor form in the 2025-26 Ashes series. Having lost the first three Tests and conceded the Ashes to Australia, the English team is now facing allegations of excessive drinking during the series. Rob Key, Managing Director of the England Men’s team, has stated that these allegations will be investigated and strict action will be taken against any player found guilty.

Controversy Surrounding the Noosa Break

England’s start to the Ashes series was disastrous. Losing the first three Tests saw Australia reclaim the Ashes in just 11 days. Between these matches, the England team took a break in Noosa, a resort town in Queensland. This break was pre-planned and intended to mentally refresh the players during a long tour. However, questions are now being raised about whether the players maintained discipline during this time or indulged in excessive drinking.

Speaking to the media, Rob Key said that taking a break is not a problem. However, if it comes to light that players drank excessively, we will investigate it thoroughly. Such behaviour is not expected from a team playing international cricket. He also stated that, according to information received so far, the players were largely disciplined. The team ate together, returned on time, and consumed alcohol in moderation.

Questions Have Been Raised Before

This is not the first instance of questions being raised about the behaviour of England team players. Rob Key cited the example of the recent tour of New Zealand, where a video of players surfaced on social media the night before a match. The video featured white-ball captain Harry Brook and player Jacob Bethell. At the time, no formal warning was issued, but the players were informally told that moderate alcohol consumption was acceptable, but excessive drinking was not.

Rob Key said that the mental health and refreshment of players during international tours is important. The purpose of the break was the same. He stressed that discipline, time management and responsibility will be focused on to improve the performance of the England team. He also indicated that if any player is found guilty in the investigation, the cricket board will take strict measures to maintain both the team’s image and discipline.
