Controversial video goes viral on internet media
The entire controversy began with the viral spread of a video clip on internet media, in which Maulana Sajid Rashidi is seen making lewd and misogynistic remarks against Dimple Yadav from a public platform. As soon as this video went viral, b reactions were seen in political circles.
Taking cognizance of this video, Pravesh Yadav, associated with the Samajwadi Party, filed a complaint at the Vibhuti Khand police station in Lucknow and demanded legal action. Yadav said in his complaint that such a comment is hurtful to the honor of any woman and is an attempt to divide society.
Case registered under serious charges
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against Maulana Sajid Rashidi under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), including BNS 79, 196, 197, 299, 352, 353, and sections of the IT Act. Vibhuti Khand police station inspector Sunil Kumar Singh said that the matter is being investigated with the help of the Cyber Crime Cell.
Matter raised in Parliament as well
The Maulana's statement also drew sharp reactions in the monsoon session of Parliament. Along with the ruling NDA, opposition MPs also criticized the statement in one voice, calling it anti-women and demanding immediate arrest. Several women MPs termed it against democratic values and the dignity of women.
