The investigation into the death of Sadhvi Prem Baisa, a well-known religious narrator from western Rajasthan, has taken a new turn after the Forensic Science Laboratory report was submitted to the police 16 days after her demise.
According to the initial findings of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), there is no confirmation that the death was caused by poison or any unnatural cause. The final conclusion, however, will be determined after the opinion of the medical board.
The FSL report was handed over to the Jodhpur Police Commissioner at around 7 pm on Thursday. Police sources stated that the report has been forwarded to the medical board through Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vineet Kumar Bansal. The medical board’s detailed opinion is awaited. Officials indicated that the situation regarding the actual cause of death may become clearer within the next 24 hours after the medical opinion is received.
Police authorities stated that the entire investigation is being conducted in a transparent manner and that the final conclusion will be made public on the basis of verified facts.
The preliminary forensic report states that there is no confirmation that Sadhvi Prem Baisa’s death occurred due to poison. No clear traces of toxic substances or indications of unnatural causes were found in the report. Experts have stated that the official cause of death will be declared only after the medical board completes its collective review, which will include analysis of the post-mortem report, viscera examination, and other medical aspects.
The incident occurred on 28 January at an ashram located in Aarti Nagar on Pal Road in Jodhpur, where Sadhvi Prem Baisa’s health reportedly deteriorated suddenly. According to information provided, she was administered two injections, after which she died shortly thereafter. The post-mortem process was completed late on 29 January and the body was handed over to the family. She was laid to rest in samadhi on 30 January in Pareu village of Barmer district.
Following the incident, various speculations had been circulating regarding the cause of death, making the forensic investigation significant. Due to weekend holidays on 31 January and 1 February, the viscera samples could not be sent immediately for examination. After the holidays, the samples were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for testing on 2 February.
After nearly two weeks of examination, the report has now been received by the police. While the report has brought partial clarity to the case, the final determination remains subject to the medical board’s opinion. The medical board will analyse the post-mortem findings, FSL conclusions and other medical evidence before officially declaring the actual cause of Sadhvi Prem Baisa’s death.
