Gayatri Jayanti 2025: Celebrating the Birth of Maa Gayatri on Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan also marks the birth anniversary of Maa Gayatri, revered as the mother of the Vedas and the goddess of knowledge. In 2025, this festival falls on August 9th. It is believed that Gayatri Mata appeared on this day. Special worship on this auspicious occasion brings intelligence, wisdom, and prosperity.

Gayatri Jayanti: According to Sanatan Dharma, August 9, 2025, will celebrate Raksha Bandhan as well as the birth anniversary of Maa Gayatri. This date is considered special because it is believed that Vedmata Gayatri manifested on this day. According to the Hindu calendar, this festival falls on the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Shravan. While Raksha Bandhan symbolizes the bond between brother and sister, Gayatri Jayanti is a festival of knowledge, penance, and consciousness. On this day, devotees worship Maa Gayatri and wish for auspicious intellect, peace, and spiritual progress.

Why is Gayatri Jayanti Celebrated?

Gayatri Mata is considered the mother of the Vedas. It is described in the scriptures that at the time of the creation of the universe, when Brahma Ji established the Yagya (sacrificial ritual), he needed a powerful mantra to complete it. At that moment, Gayatri Mata appeared and helped Brahma Ji to complete the Yagya. Since then, she came to be known as Vedmata.

The Gayatri Mantra "Om Bhur Bhuvah Swah, Tat Savitur Varenyam..." is considered the supreme of all mantras. This mantra is not only a medium for spiritual awakening but also the key to mental purification and spiritual strength.

Why is the Puja Performed on Raksha Bandhan?

Shravan Purnima brings two important festivals together: Raksha Bandhan and Gayatri Jayanti. While sisters tie Rakhi for the long life and protection of their brothers on Raksha Bandhan, worshipping Maa Gayatri on the same day protects the soul, expands knowledge, and develops inner consciousness.

In Sanatan beliefs, it is also said that on Raksha Bandhan, efforts are necessary not only for external security but also for spiritual and intellectual security — therefore, the worship of Gayatri Mata is of special importance.
