Groom Navigates Punjab Floods on Tractor to Reach Wedding

Amidst the floods in Punjab, a groom in Hoshiarpur took a tractor to reach Jalandhar with his wedding procession. Despite knee-deep water and stranded cars, the wedding took place and the bride was taken to her new home. 119 villages in the district are affected by the floods.

Hoshiarpur: Heavy rainfall and floods in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, have submerged roads, causing vehicles to break down. Despite this, the groom arrived in Jalandhar on a tractor for his wedding procession and completed the marriage ceremony with the bride. 119 villages in the district are affected by the floods, 5,971 hectares of agricultural land have been damaged, and the administration is engaged in relief camps and rescue operations. Entry to riverbanks and drains is completely prohibited for safety reasons.

20 Baraatis Crossed the Road on a Tractor Trolley

The wedding procession was scheduled to go from Khanara village to Jalandhar, but the roads, filled with knee-deep water, brought all vehicles to a halt. It became difficult for the groom and the baraatis to proceed.

The family resorted to a tractor trolley. The groom, 20 baraatis connected to the bride's family, and other relatives boarded it. The tractor crossed approximately 1.5 kilometers of submerged road, after which they continued to the bride's house in cars. This adventurous effort became a beacon of hope and celebration amidst the flood.

Over 100 Villages in Hoshiarpur Troubled by Floods

More than 100 villages in Hoshiarpur district are reeling under the impact of the floods, including many villages in Tanda and Mukerian sub-divisions. Due to waterlogging in the fields, paddy, sugarcane, and other crops have suffered significant damage.

According to the district administration, 5,971 hectares of agricultural land have been affected so far. Out of a total of 1,966 affected people, 1,615 have been moved to safe locations. Five relief camps are operational in the district, housing 1,041 people.

Houses and Property Suffered Severe Damage

As a result of the floods, 32 houses in the district have been completely damaged, 24 houses have suffered severe damage, and one has sustained partial damage. Additionally, two cattle sheds have also been destroyed. Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain stated that compensation and assistance will be provided to the affected people. Relief and rescue operations are continuing at a fast pace with the coordination of all departments.

Administration Initiates Relief Efforts

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gursimranjit Kaur visited the flood-affected villages and provided ration, tarpaulins, and clean drinking water to the affected families. Instructions have been given to the officials to ensure continuous availability of health services and veterinary care.

In view of heavy monsoon rains and waterlogging, the Deputy Commissioner has imposed a complete ban on bathing in and walking along the banks of rivers, drains, and canals.
