Kanpur witnessed a sudden change in weather on Sunday as heavy rain accompanied by b winds swept across the city during the afternoon. Within minutes, dense dark clouds covered the sky, creating near-evening conditions during daylight hours and disrupting normal life in several areas.

The impact of the rain was most visible in Ward-29 and the Gujaini area. Rainwater entered several houses in Ward-29, causing difficulties for residents. As water accumulated inside homes, people were occupied with moving household belongings to safer locations. In Gujaini, several roads became completely waterlogged, creating difficulties for motorists and affecting movement across the area.

Waterlogging was also reported in multiple low-lying parts of the city. Residents said drains began overflowing soon after the rain started, allowing water to flow from streets into residential areas. In several neighbourhoods, people were forced to walk through knee-deep water. Motorcycles and cars were also reported stranded in flooded locations.

Residents questioned the municipal drainage system, stating that similar conditions occur every year during the monsoon season. They said overflowing drains and inadequate water discharge contributed to flooding in residential and road networks.

Strong winds caused tree branches to break and fall onto roads in several parts of the city. Power supply was also affected in some areas. Teams from the administration and the electricity department are monitoring the situation and carrying out necessary repair work.

People have been advised to remain indoors during periods of b winds and heavy rainfall. Authorities have also appealed to residents to maintain a safe distance from electricity poles and trees during storms.

The rainfall brought relief from intense heat and humidity that had persisted in the city over recent days. Temperatures had remained around 40 degrees Celsius, and residents had been facing hot weather conditions. Following the rain, a drop in temperature was recorded and weather conditions became more pleasant.

Weather experts said fluctuations in weather conditions may continue over the coming days.

Although the rain has stopped, waterlogging continues in several areas of Kanpur. Municipal corporation teams are engaged in pumping out water and cleaning drains. Residents are hoping that the administration will introduce a permanent solution to recurring waterlogging issues during periods of rainfall.
