Sweets hold a special place in Indian cuisine, and when it comes to traditional sweets made from pure milk, Milk Peda is one of the first to come to mind. It's a sweet that makes every festival, puja, or special occasion even more special. Today, we will teach you how to make Milk Peda using a very easy, unique, and traditional method, which is delicious in taste and very simple to make.
Ingredients Required
- Milk – 1 kg (full cream)
- Sugar – 80 grams (can be adjusted according to taste)
- Cardamom powder – 1/2 teaspoon
- Cornflour – 1/4 teaspoon
- Hydro powder – 1 pinch (to thicken the milk quickly)
- Dry fruits – as needed (finely chopped)
- Silver leaf – for decoration
Easy Method of Preparation
1. Starting to Boil the Milk
Take a heavy-bottomed pan and add full cream milk to it. Keep the gas on high heat and let the milk boil. As soon as the milk starts to boil, add sugar to it. Adding sugar will prevent the milk from sticking to the bottom and will also enhance the taste.
2. Process of Thickening the Milk
Now, take out 1/4 cup of milk in a small bowl and dissolve the cornflour in it. Slowly add this mixture to the boiling milk while stirring continuously to avoid any lumps. Adding cornflour will make the texture of the Peda soft and smooth.
3. Use of Hydro Powder
As the milk thickens, keep scraping it from the sides of the pan. When the milk is reduced to about 1/4 and becomes like khoya, reduce the gas flame and add hydro powder to it. This will help the mixture set quickly.
4. Cooling Process
When the khoya thickens and forms a ball, turn off the gas. Now take it out on a plate and let it cool down. When it is slightly cool, keep it in the fridge for about 1 hour. This will prevent it from sticking to your hands and will make it easier to make the Peda.
5. Magic of Cardamom and Dry Fruits
Now take out the cooled khoya and mash it well so that it becomes soft and smooth. Add cardamom powder to it and mix well. Cardamom enhances both the aroma and taste.
6. Making the Peda
Now make small balls from this mixture. Give them a round shape by placing them between your palms and then flatten them slightly. Press lightly in the middle with your thumb to give it the traditional Peda shape.
7. Final Decoration
Place a little bit of chopped dry fruits on top of each Peda and you can also add silver leaf if you want. Now your delicious, beautiful, and homemade Milk Pedas are completely ready.
Some Useful Tips
- It is important to keep stirring the milk continuously, otherwise, it may burn at the bottom.
- Peda can still be made without adding cornflour, but it may have slight cracks.
- Hydro powder is optional, but it helps in making khoya quickly.
- For variety in taste, you can also add saffron, pistachios, or rose water.
