IMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall Before Dussehra as New Low-Pressure Area Forms in Bay of Bengal

Monsoon withdrawal is delayed in several states across the country, but the Meteorological Department has warned that a new low-pressure area is forming over the Bay of Bengal, which could bring heavy rainfall before Dussehra.

Weather Update: The time for monsoon to retreat has arrived across the country, but its withdrawal is currently delayed in several states. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area persists over coastal areas of West Bengal, North Odisha, and the North-western Bay of Bengal, adjacent to the Gangetic plains.

Furthermore, a new low-pressure area is likely to form around September 25 over the North-western and central Bay of Bengal. Due to this, several states are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next few days, ahead of Dussehra.

New Low-Pressure Area in the Bay of Bengal

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area is already active over coastal areas of West Bengal, North Odisha, and the North-western Bay of Bengal, adjacent to the Gangetic plains. Additionally, a new low-pressure area is likely to form around September 25 over the North-western and central Bay of Bengal. With the activation of this system, many states could experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days before Dussehra.

The IMD has warned that due to the active low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, another spell of rain might commence in parts of North India. Its impact is expected to bring rain not only to coastal states but also extend monsoon effects to some parts of Central India.
