Manish Tewari's 'Nepo Kids' Post Sparks BJP-Congress Row Over Rahul Gandhi Jibe

Congress leader Manish Tewari's social media post sparked controversy regarding Asian protest movements. The BJP viewed it as a jibe at Rahul Gandhi. Tewari retaliated, stating his objective was merely to highlight global trends.

New Delhi: Congress leader Manish Tewari recently found himself embroiled in controversy due to one of his social media posts. He shared an article on anti-government movements occurring in various Asian countries and used hashtags like #NepoKids in connection with it. The BJP immediately seized upon this post as a political weapon, claiming it was aimed at Rahul Gandhi.

Origin of the Post and the Issue

In his post at 10 AM on Tuesday, Manish Tewari wrote that in July 2023, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was removed from office in Sri Lanka; in July 2024, Sheikh Hasina was removed in Bangladesh; in September 2025, protests occurred against K.P. Sharma Oli in Nepal; and now demonstrations are happening against Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the Philippines. He stated that Generations X, Y, and Z are no longer accepting 'entitlement'.

Tewari wrote that these social media trends have challenged dynasticism, and to understand this, one can refer to his article and studies such as the Trillion Peso March. While Rahul Gandhi was not explicitly named in his post, the BJP immediately turned it into a political debate.

BJP's Reaction

BJP leader Amit Malviya seized on this post, stating that senior Congress leader Manish Tewari was targeting Rahul Gandhi, the biggest 'nepo kid' in Indian politics. He tweeted that even senior leaders within the Congress are fed up with Rahul Gandhi's politics, and a rebellion has now begun from within.

Manish Tewari's Response

Manish Tewari retaliated against the BJP's reaction. He stated that his only objective was for some people to move forward in life. He emphasized that not everything should be confined to Congress-BJP or 'he said, she said' or 'X' or 'Y'. He added that the events unfolding in South Asia and East Asia have serious implications for national security, and it is crucial to understand them in the correct perspective.

National Security and the Context of Asian Movements

Manish Tewari asserts that the anti-government movements occurring in South Asia and East Asia require examination because they are not limited to local politics. Their impact could extend to regional stability, economic development, and national security. He explained that it is important for the public not to view this issue solely from a political angle, but to understand it through serious analysis.
