The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall, b winds and thunderstorms across several parts of the country over the next few days, with alerts issued for 14 states within the next nine hours. According to the IMD, wind speeds of 40 to 61 kmph may occur in several areas.
Weather conditions are expected to change across Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana, Assam, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir. Experts have advised people to follow IMD advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
According to the latest IMD forecast, moderate to heavy rainfall is likely across several parts of the country over the next few days. The states under the special alert include Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Assam, Odisha, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir.
Heavy rainfall, lightning and b winds are expected at several locations in these states. The IMD has advised local administrations and residents to remain alert.
The IMD said thunderstorms may accompany rainfall across several parts of northeast India. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning between July 30 and August 1.
Strong winds with speeds of 41 to 61 kmph are expected in Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas. Heavy rain and b winds may result in fallen trees, disruption to electricity supply and traffic interruptions.
The IMD said monsoon conditions are expected to remain active across Delhi-NCR. Cloudy skies with intermittent light to moderate rainfall are likely from July 30 to August 2.
The maximum temperature is forecast to remain around 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 24 degrees Celsius. Rainfall is also likely to continue in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad.
Heavy rainfall is likely in western and central districts of Uttar Pradesh. The next 24 hours are considered important for Bijnor, Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Baghpat, Sitapur, Kanpur, Chitrakoot, Mahoba, Banda and Agra.
In Bihar, heavy rainfall is forecast at several locations between July 31 and August 2. Rainfall activity may intensify in Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada, Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga and Madhubani.
Heavy rainfall is likely in Narmadapuram, Harda, Dhar, Dewas and Burhanpur districts of Madhya Pradesh, while light to moderate rainfall may occur in Bhopal and several other districts.
Rain alerts have also been issued for Dang, Tapi, Narmada and several other parts of Gujarat.
In Assam, continuous rainfall has resulted in flood-like conditions in some areas. The IMD has advised caution in Tinsukia, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Kamrup and several other districts.
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is also likely between July 30 and August 3 across parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand and Odisha. Continuous rainfall in these regions may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas, landslides and rising water levels in rivers and streams.
