The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for several parts of the country, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning across at least 13 states on June 18. Wind speeds in some areas may reach 70 to 80 kilometres per hour.
According to the IMD, the change in weather conditions is being driven by active monsoon conditions and the influence of a western disturbance, affecting large parts of northern, eastern and central India.
The IMD has forecast adverse weather conditions on June 18 in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and parts of Assam.
These states are expected to experience rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and b winds.
The IMD has issued a warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Delhi on June 18. Wind speeds are expected to range between 60 and 65 kilometres per hour. Delhi is likely to record a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius on June 18.
A heavy rain and thunderstorm alert has also been issued for Gautam Buddh Nagar, Meerut, Agra, Firozabad, Jhansi, Lalitpur, Kanpur, Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Rampur, Pilibhit, Barabanki, Unnao, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Deoria and Azamgarh. Gusty winds with speeds of up to 70 kilometres per hour are expected in these areas.
Lucknow is forecast to record a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius on June 18.
The IMD has issued a heavy rain and thunderstorm alert for West Champaran, East Champaran, Patna, Siwan, Saran, Bhojpur, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Kishanganj, Katihar, Madhepura, Bhagalpur, Munger, Saharsa and Supaul. Wind speeds are expected to reach 70 to 75 kilometres per hour in these districts.
Patna is forecast to record a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 29 degrees Celsius on June 5.
In Jharkhand, heavy rain and thunderstorm alerts have been issued for Bokaro, Dumka, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, Jamtara, Seraikela, Palamu, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Jamtara, Sahibganj and Giridih. Wind speeds of 50 to 55 kilometres per hour are expected in these areas.
Ranchi is forecast to record a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 26 degrees Celsius on June 18.
