India Grapples with Heavy Rainfall: Waterlogging and Devastation Reported Across Multiple States

Heavy rainfall in Delhi and several states across the country has disrupted normal life. Waterlogging on roads and in colonies is affecting traffic and creating a health crisis.

Weather Update: The problem of waterlogging, following heavy rainfall in many parts of the country including the capital Delhi, has increased the difficulties for the general public. Water accumulated on roads, streets, and in colonies is not only affecting traffic and daily life but has also led to a health crisis. Specifically, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra have witnessed severe devastation due to heavy rains, with reports of three deaths in Himachal and Uttarakhand during this period.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue for the next two days in Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. According to IMD, the Southwest Monsoon has now withdrawn from some parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, and Haryana.

Devastation in Himachal, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra

Heavy rainfall occurred in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh on Monday night, inundating Dharampur market and surrounding areas. HRTC buses and other vehicles parked in Son Khad were submerged, with some buses being washed away. Three members of a family lost their lives due to landslides. In Uttarakhand, heavy rains have damaged roads, houses, and shops. A bridge was washed away early on Tuesday, and several people are missing. A cloudburst overnight in the Sahastradhara area of Dehradun caused a flood in the Karligarh river, damaging surrounding areas.

In Maharashtra, three people died and over 120 people were safely evacuated to higher grounds due to heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. Rivers in the state are in spate, and life has been completely disrupted in areas like Beed and Ahmednagar due to floods.

Weather Situation in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar

Rainfall was recorded in many parts of the state on Monday and Tuesday. According to the Meteorological Department, intense rainfall is expected in Eastern UP for the next two days. This has led to a drop in temperature and relief from humidity. Light rainfall occurred in several districts of Bihar. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall for the next two days, which could lead to overflowing rivers and waterlogging.

Alert for Delhi, Himachal, and Uttarakhand

Rain continued in Delhi until Tuesday morning. People faced significant difficulties due to waterlogging on roads and in colonies. According to the Meteorological Department, Delhi will experience partly cloudy skies from September 17 to 19. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 25 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature around 23 degrees Celsius during this period.

The IMD has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next two days in Uttarakhand, Himachal, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim. People have been advised to exercise caution to avoid landslides, floods, and waterlogging. Beed and Ahmednagar districts in Maharashtra have been the most affected. Three deaths and damage to several properties have been reported in the last 24 hours.
