India Weather Update: Heavy Rains Cause Floods, Alerts Issued for Multiple States

Monsoon activity continues across the country. Heavy rains are occurring from the hilly areas to the plains, causing flood situations in several states. In Bihar, floods have claimed the lives of 26 people so far.

Weather Update: The monsoon's grip continues across the country. Heavy rainfall in many states has led to flood situations, disrupting daily life. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh for the next seven days. Besides this, heavy rain is also expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh.

Overall Monsoon Situation in the Country

This time, the monsoon has brought good rainfall to both the hilly and plain areas of the country. However, in some places, excessive rainfall has led to flood-like conditions. Especially in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, there is a danger of devastation due to heavy rains and waterlogging. In Bihar, floods have claimed the lives of 26 people so far this monsoon. Meanwhile, incidents of landslides are also being reported in several areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Heavy Rain Alert in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh for the next seven days. In Uttarakhand, normal life has been disrupted due to torrential rains in Nainital, Ramnagar, and surrounding areas. Many waterfalls and rivers are overflowing in the hilly areas, increasing the risk of flooding. 

In Himachal Pradesh, a warning of heavy rain has been issued for the Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur, Chamba, and Shimla districts, and landslides have already caused the deaths of two more people. The administration has made extensive security arrangements.

Possibility of Heavy Rain in Uttar Pradesh Too

The dominance of the monsoon continues in Uttar Pradesh. There is a possibility of heavy rain in several districts of the state between August 12 and 15. The flood situation remains serious in several districts including Shahjahanpur, Ballia, Banda, Farrukhabad, Prayagraj, and Varanasi. The local administration has advised people to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Flood Havoc Continues in Bihar

In Bihar, roads and railway tracks have been flooded in Patna, Bhagalpur, Sitamarhi, and other districts due to floods, disrupting transportation. Several agencies are engaged in relief and rescue operations. A warning of rain, lightning, and b winds has been issued for August 12 in 22 districts of the state. An orange alert has been issued for 6 districts, indicating the possibility of heavy rain. Heavy rain is expected in the districts of East and West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Aurangabad, Arwal, Buxar, and Bhojpur on August 13.

Weather in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Andhra Pradesh

There is a possibility of thunderstorms and rain in the National Capital Delhi on August 12. The minimum temperature will be around 26 degrees Celsius and the maximum around 35 degrees Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be light rain in some places in the capital and the sky will remain cloudy. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh between August 14 and 17. 

Light to moderate rain is also possible in different parts of the state. Heavy rain is also possible in some districts of Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh on August 14 and 15. Due to the rain, rivers and streams may overflow, so citizens need to be vigilant. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen to avoid going into the southwest and west-central Arabian Sea between August 12 and 13.
