India Bans Single-Use Plastic; Rajasthan Offers ₹15,000 Reward for Informers

The Government of India banned single-use plastic from July 1, 2022. The Rajasthan Pollution Control Board has launched a scheme to reward informers with ₹15,000.

Single Use Plastic Ban: The Government of India has imposed a complete ban on the manufacturing, import, storage, distribution, sale, and use of single-use plastic (SUP) items across the country from July 1, 2022. This step has been taken for environmental protection and pollution control. The government's objective is to reduce plastic pollution and provide the public with an opportunity to live in a cleaner environment.

Under the central government's notification, ear buds with plastic sticks, disposable thermocol plates, cups, glasses, straws, spoons-forks, plastic flags, plastic sheets, banners, and other single-use plastic items are now prohibited from production and sale. Surveillance has been increased at both state and central levels to ensure compliance with this ban.

Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board Launches Reward Scheme

The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board has implemented a reward scheme with the aim of encouraging public participation in the adherence to this ban. Under this scheme, an individual providing credible information about the production, sale, or distribution of banned single-use plastic will be rewarded with ₹15,000.

Regional Officer Amit Juyal stated that this scheme has been formulated to strengthen environmental protection. If an individual provides information about any unit or industry in Rajasthan that produces banned plastic, an investigation will be conducted based on this information, and the reward will be disbursed accordingly.

Which Items are Included

The banned items specifically include:

  • Ear buds with plastic sticks
  • Disposable thermocol plates, cups, and glasses
  • Plastic straws, spoons, and forks
  • Plastic flags and banners
  • Plastic sheets and other single-use plastic materials

The manufacturing, storage, and sale of these items are now completely illegal.
