Coast Guard Global Summit: India has secured a major diplomatic and strategic success. The Indian Coast Guard has been given the opportunity to host the 5th Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS) in 2027. This historic announcement was made during the 4th Coast Guard Global Summit held in Rome, Italy, on September 11-12, where maritime security experts from around the world unanimously approved India's proposal.
This event will prove to be a landmark in the history of Indian maritime security, as the summit will be held in Chennai on the occasion of the 50th anniversary (Golden Jubilee) of the Indian Coast Guard.
Three-Day Grand Event
The 5th Coast Guard Global Summit will span three days and will be attended by heads of maritime forces, policymakers, experts, and technology partners from various countries. The main events of the summit will include: An International Coast Guard Fleet Review, where maritime security agencies from different countries will showcase their capabilities.
A Global Seminar, which will feature in-depth discussions on issues related to maritime security such as shared challenges, technological cooperation, environmental protection, prevention of maritime crime, and disaster management. The summit's objective will not be limited to maritime security alone, but will serve as a platform to foster trust-building, enhance joint operational capabilities, and promote technological cooperation among nations.
Role of Indian Leadership
The Indian delegation at the summit was led by the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, Paramvesh Shivmani. He stated, "In today's world, no single nation can tackle maritime challenges alone. We need to enhance our collaborative efforts, technological partnerships, and mutual synergy. This summit will provide a common platform for all countries to work together on maritime security, pollution control, crime prevention, and humanitarian missions."

During the 4th Coast Guard Global Summit, a high-level meeting also took place between India and Italy. In this meeting, both countries agreed to enhance cooperation in areas such as maritime security, search and rescue operations, environmental protection, maritime crime prevention, information sharing, and training, under the India-Italy Strategic Partnership Plan 2025-2029.
