India Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall and Flood Warnings Issued for Multiple States

The continuous rainfall across the country these days has increased the problems of people in many states. The water level of rivers is rising rapidly in many areas, leading to a flood-like situation and affecting public life.

Weather Update: Monsoon rains are wreaking havoc in many parts of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 15 in several states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Along with this, the possibility of torrential rain has also been expressed in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa in western India. Due to the continuous heavy rainfall, the water level of the rivers is increasing rapidly, which is increasing the risk of floods.

Alert issued for these 13 districts in Uttar Pradesh

The weather department in UP has predicted heavy rainfall in 13 districts on July 15. People living in these districts have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel. The districts for which the alert has been issued are:

  • Bahraich
  • Balrampur
  • Gonda
  • Azamgarh
  • Jaunpur
  • Maharajganj
  • Varanasi
  • Chandauli
  • Mirzapur
  • Ambedkar Nagar
  • Prayagraj
  • Ballia

The weather department has warned that there is also a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by b winds and lightning in these districts.

Warning of torrential rain in many districts of Bihar

A Yellow and Orange alert has also been issued for Bihar regarding rain on July 15. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in these districts:

  • Ara, Patna, Nalanda, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Aurangabad, Rohtas
  • Apart from this, light to moderate rain is possible in these districts:
  • West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Araria, Supaul, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Saharsa, Samastipur, Saran

Alert issued in Rajasthan, Himachal, Uttarakhand

  • Rajasthan: According to the weather department, very heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) is expected in some parts of Rajasthan on July 15. This is likely to cause waterlogging in cities and villages and damage to crops.
  • Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand: Heavy rains, landslides, and the risk of avalanches are predicted in these mountainous states between July 15 and 20. People are advised to avoid traveling to the mountains.
  • Jammu and Kashmir: Rainfall is expected from July 15 to 17.
  • Punjab: Possibility of heavy rainfall on July 15 and 16.
  • Haryana and Chandigarh: Good rainfall is expected on July 15.
  • Western Uttar Pradesh: Warning of continuous rain between July 16 and 20.

Weather in Odisha, Bengal, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh

  • Odisha: Extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) is expected in many places on July 15.
  • West Bengal (coastal Gangetic area): Possibility of heavy rain on July 15.
  • Jharkhand (south-eastern region): Possibility of heavy rainfall.
  • Chhattisgarh: Very heavy rainfall is possible in different areas on July 15.

Due to the active monsoon trough across the country and the moisture coming from the Bay of Bengal, many states are facing the threat of heavy rain and floods. The water level of rivers has reached near the danger mark in many places. People have been appealed to follow the advice of the local administration and the weather department.
