India added two silver medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, taking its overall medal tally to 12. Gulveer Singh won a historic silver medal in the men's 10,000m event, while Harjinder Kaur secured silver in women's weightlifting. Three Indian boxers also advanced to the semifinals, guaranteeing at least bronze medals.
Twenty-seven-year-old Gulveer Singh created history by winning the silver medal in the men's 10,000m race. He became the first Indian athlete to win a medal in the event in Commonwealth Games history. Gulveer was running in fourth place until the closing stages of the race before moving into second position on the final lap to secure the silver medal.
Gulveer Singh, a native of Sirsa village in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh district, serves as a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army. He initially began running while preparing for Army recruitment. After joining the Grenadiers Regiment in 2018, he took up athletics seriously and progressed to the international level through sustained training and competition.
Harjinder Kaur claimed the silver medal in the women's 69kg weightlifting event with a total lift of 227kg. She recorded a personal-best lift of 101kg in the snatch and lifted 126kg in the clean and jerk to finish second. After winning the medal, Harjinder greeted the spectators with folded hands. The result also marked her second consecutive Commonwealth Games medal.

Harjinder Kaur, from Mahesh village in Nabha, Punjab, began her sporting career in kabaddi and tug of war before switching to weightlifting on the advice of her coach. Her physical strength, developed through farm and household work, helped her adapt to the sport. After winning a bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she added a silver medal at the 2026 edition.
Harjinder Kaur's silver medal was India's seventh medal in weightlifting at the Games. Indian lifters have already secured gold, silver and bronze medals across multiple weight categories. Athletes from Manipur have also contributed several medals to India's weightlifting campaign.
India's boxing contingent strengthened its medal prospects after three boxers advanced to the semifinals. In the women's competition, Preeti Pawar and Priya Ghanghas won their respective quarterfinal bouts to reach the last four. In the men's competition, Jadumani also advanced to the semifinals with a quarterfinal victory. Under Commonwealth Games boxing rules, all semifinalists are assured of at least a bronze medal, guaranteeing India three medals in the sport.
In athletics, Vishal TK qualified for the men's 400m semifinals after finishing second in his heat, while Rajesh Ramesh missed out on a semifinal berth. In swimming, Srihari Nataraj advanced to the men's 100m backstroke semifinals, whereas Sajan Prakash did not progress in the men's 50m butterfly event. In para swimming, Karthik Budigina and Ali Imam qualified for the men's 50m freestyle S-13 final, improving India's medal prospects.
Nirupama Devi was unable to secure a medal in the women's 63kg weightlifting competition. She finished fifth in the snatch, but failed in all three clean and jerk attempts, ending her campaign without a medal.
India has now won a total of 12 medals, including two gold medals along with multiple silver and bronze medals. Despite adding two silver medals, India slipped to ninth place in the medal standings as other nations improved their overall tally. Australia remained at the top of the standings with the highest number of gold medals.
