INS Tamal: The Indian Navy is about to gain another major strength today. The state-of-the-art stealth frigate warship named INS Tamal will be launched at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia. This multi-purpose vessel is capable of evading radar and is equipped with the most modern technologies to counter surface, air, and submarine attacks. INS Tamal is a vibrant symbol of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the Make in India campaign.

INS Tamal to be launched in Russia

The Indian Navy is going to launch INS Tamal in Kaliningrad, Russia on Tuesday. This event will be held at the Yantar Shipyard. Vice Admiral Sanjay J Singh, the head of the Western Naval Command, will preside over this historic occasion. The launch, attended by top defense officials and government representatives from India and Russia, will also symbolize the strengthening of a strategic partnership.

Stealth Frigate: Capable of avoiding radar

INS Tamal is a stealth warship, meaning it is very difficult to detect on radar. This capability enables it to move ahead and launch lethal attacks, hidden from the enemy during war. This frigate is prepared to respond to surface-to-surface, surface-to-air, and submarine attacks.

Eighth of the Krivak class and second of the Trishul class warship

INS Tamal is the eighth in the series of Krivak class frigates and the second warship of the Trishul class. It has been prepared at the Yantar Shipyard in Russia under the supervision of the Indian Navy. Its construction has been done according to Indian requirements and technical standards.

Another step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat

Approximately 26% of indigenous equipment has been used in this ship. Its design has been developed in collaboration with the Russian Severnoye Design Bureau and Indian experts. During construction, the number of indigenous equipment was increased to 33 systems. Indian companies like BrahMos Aerospace, Bharat Electronics Limited, Keltron, and Tata's Nova Integrated Systems have contributed to it.

Equipped with BrahMos, long-range strike capability

INS Tamal is equipped with BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. This missile can hit targets with extreme accuracy over a distance of more than 290 kilometers. This missile is capable of both anti-ship and land-attack missions. Its presence gives this warship the power to alert any enemy.

Advanced weapons and sensor systems

INS Tamal has several modern weapons and sensors installed, which prepare it for multi-dimensional warfare missions. It includes a 100 mm Advanced Naval Gun and a Close-In Weapon System (CIWS) gun. Torpedo and rocket-based anti-submarine weapons are also part of the ship.

Also, it has the HUMSA NG Mk II sonar system, EO/IR (Electro-Optical/Infrared) system, Advanced Warfare radar, network-centric warfare system, and electronic warfare system installed. All these systems together make the warship powerful in every dimension of naval warfare.

Maximum speed of 30 knots and multi-purpose helicopter operation capability

The maximum speed of INS Tamal is 30 knots. This warship weighs 3900 tons and is 125 meters long. The operation of multi-purpose helicopters is possible on its deck, which broadens its operational area. With the help of helicopters, the ship can perform better in maritime surveillance, rescue, and attack.

The next technology-based warship will be built in Goa Shipyard

India is now building two more warships in Goa Shipyard Limited based on this technology. This is a big step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and indigenous defense manufacturing. The construction of INS Tamal is not only strategically important but also reflects India's technical capability and self-reliance in the defense sector.

A fusion of mythical heritage and modern power

INS Tamal is inspired by mythological beliefs. The name 'Tamal' symbolizes the divine sword that Indra, the king of the gods, used for war. Its mascot is named 'The Great Bears', inspired by the combination of the Indian mythological character Jambavan and the Russian brown bear. Its motto is – ‘Sarvada Sarvatra Vijaya’, which means – Victory always, everywhere.
