Tuticorin-Chennai Indigo flight 6E1607 experienced a windshield crack mid-air. All 75 passengers are safe due to the pilots' alertness. DGCA has initiated an investigation into the incident and requested a technical report.

Chennai. A major question mark has been raised over passenger safety when the windshield of Indigo's Tuticorin-Chennai flight 6E1607 cracked mid-air. The flight had 75 passengers on board, and due to the pilots' alertness and quick decision-making, all passengers were safely landed at Chennai airport. This incident underscores the importance of aviation safety and the need for regular inspections.

Problem Detected During Flight

Indigo's ATR 72 flight from Tuticorin to Chennai was approaching its destination on Monday afternoon when the pilots noticed a crack in the windshield. The pilots immediately informed Air Traffic Control (ATC), and a local standby was declared as a precautionary measure at Chennai airport. The aircraft landed safely without any complications, and the safety of all 75 passengers was ensured.

Airline Statement and Safety Procedure

Indigo stated in an official announcement that flight 6E1607, on October 13, 2025, required maintenance before landing at its destination. The company affirmed that the aircraft landed safely in Chennai, adhering to standard operating procedures. Flight operations will only resume once the necessary technical inspections and clearances are obtained. Indigo also clarified that the safety of passengers and crew is their utmost priority.

Second Incident in Three Days

This is Indigo's second such incident in just four days. Previously, on Saturday, an ATR aircraft operating the Madurai-Chennai route also reported a windshield problem. That flight had 76 passengers on board, and the pilot immediately informed ATC. The aircraft landed safely and was moved to a separate parking bay (Parking Bay 95) for inspection. Indigo later replaced the damaged windshield and resumed operations.

DGCA Initiates Investigation

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has independently launched an investigation into both incidents. Indigo has been directed to submit a detailed technical report. Officials will conduct a safety audit and engineering checks to determine if there is any systemic problem within the ATR fleet.
