Israel has raised objections to a statement made by Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, describing it as objectionable and provocative, and stating that such remarks are inconsistent with the image of a neutral mediating country, raising questions about Pakistan’s diplomatic role.
The response followed Khawaja Asif’s recent remarks amid Pakistan’s involvement in mediation efforts between the United States and Iran. Statements issued on Thursday by the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office and the Foreign Minister said that such language could harm any ongoing peace process. The issue gained visibility on social media, where the remarks triggered international debate and scrutiny of Pakistan’s neutrality.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office stated that the use of terms referring to destruction against Israel is serious and unacceptable. Israeli officials said that such statements, coming from a country positioning itself as a mediator in peace talks, raise concerns regarding impartiality. The response was shared on the social media platform X.
Khawaja Asif, in his remarks, accused Israel and described it as a threat to humanity. He referred to violence in Gaza, Iran, and Lebanon while criticising Israel.
