The username feature is designed to reduce the need to share personal phone numbers, particularly in business interactions, online conversations, or when connecting with new contacts. Users will be able to control how they are discovered while keeping their personal details protected.
Users can access the feature through their WhatsApp profile settings, where an option to create a username will be available. If a selected username is already in use, the system will prompt the user to choose a different one. The process functions similarly to username selection on other platforms.
The feature is currently in a testing phase and has been rolled out to select users on Android and iPhone. Following the completion of testing, it is expected to be gradually introduced to users globally.
