Labourer Shivraj Bairwa died after falling into a lift shaft while working at the Staff Selection Board building in Jhalana. His family has accused the contractor of gross negligence. Police investigation is ongoing.

Rajasthan: A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday night at the Staff Selection Board building located in Jhalana area of Jaipur. Shivraj Bairwa, a 23-year-old labourer working in the building's basement, fell into an empty lift shaft, sustaining severe injuries on the spot. Fellow labourers immediately rushed him to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.

The deceased has been identified as Shivraj Bairwa (23), son of Kishan Lal Bairwa, resident of Village Peepla, Tehsil Madhorajpura, District Jaipur. He was employed as a labourer by Kishori Construction Company, a contracting firm working at the Staff Selection Board building under R.S.R.D.C. LTD., Jaipur.

The incident is reported to have occurred on the night of January 5th, around 9 PM. At that time, Shivraj was working on the VDC (CC) flooring in the basement. During his work, he went to the ground floor to drink water and met with the accident while returning.

Lift Shaft Left Open Without Safety Measures

Prahlad Bairwa, the deceased's father, has filed a report against the contracting firm at Gandhi Nagar Police Station (Jaipur East). According to the report, the lift shaft in the building was about 25 to 30 feet deep and was left completely open. No safety netting, barricading, or warning signs were put in place there.

Furthermore, there was insufficient lighting at the accident site. Due to the darkness, Shivraj did not see the lift shaft and fell directly into it. His family alleges that had the contractor adhered to safety standards, this accident could have been avoided.

Immediately after the accident, other labourers present at the scene called a 108 ambulance, and Shivraj was taken to Jaipuria Hospital. There, after examination, doctors declared him dead.

Family Stages Protest

Upon receiving news of the labourer's death, his family rushed to the hospital. Blaming the contractor's negligence for the death, they demanded justice and compensation. On Tuesday morning, the family began a protest at Jaipuria Hospital. No agreement could be reached between the family and the administration until late at night, due to which the post-mortem could not be conducted. The family continued to sit at the hospital premises, demanding strict action against those responsible.

Meanwhile, taking the matter seriously, the police have registered a case against the contracting firm. The police are investigating the extent to which safety regulations were ignored at the workplace and the contractor's responsibility in the matter. Further legal action will be taken after the investigation is complete.
