Congress leader Jairam Ramesh targeted Modi and Trump's friendship. Citing past events, he said that this relationship has caused losses to India.
Trump-Modi Relationship: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh has sharply criticized the relationship between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump. Referencing an old famous song, he said, "Friend is no longer a friend, Trump, we no longer trust you." He argues that the images and claims of the Modi-Trump friendship are now proving costly for the country.
From 'Howdy Modi' and 'Namaste Trump' to Today
Jairam Ramesh said that Prime Minister Modi organized several programs to showcase a b relationship with Trump. Large events like 'Howdy Modi' and 'Namaste Trump' were held. During these programs, Prime Minister Modi himself said, "Abki baar, Trump Sarkar" (This time, Trump government). During Trump's inauguration ceremony in the US, the Indian Foreign Minister was seated in the front row. All these events were presented to suggest that there was a deep personal relationship between PM Modi and Donald Trump.
Why Criticism? What are the Reasons?
Jairam Ramesh said that the same Trump is now threatening to increase tariffs on India. India is being warned not to buy oil from Russia. This is the same Trump whom PM Modi used to call his 'friend'. The Congress leader argues that this so-called 'special relationship' now appears to be detrimental to India.
Serious Questions on Foreign Policy
Ramesh also questioned Prime Minister Modi's foreign policy. He said that for years it was claimed that PM Modi's international diplomacy was excellent. But when leaders like Trump openly start pressuring India, these claims seem hollow. He says that PM Modi should now clarify what benefits the country derived from his relationship with Trump and why it is now causing losses.
Raised the Issue of Operation Sindoor as Well
The Congress leader also mentioned Trump's claim that he stopped Operation Sindoor. Ramesh said that Trump has said more than 32 times that he stopped military action by India against Pakistan. But Prime Minister Modi has never commented on this. The Ministry of External Affairs has now issued a statement, but it is also quite late.
America-Pakistan-China 'Triad' Becoming a Challenge
Ramesh says that today America, Pakistan, and China are all emerging as a challenge for India. America was previously considered a strategic partner of India, but now it is also putting pressure on India along with Pakistan and China. He said that during Trump's tenure, America provided military assistance to Pakistan, and now economic pressure is being put on India.
Questions on the Prime Minister's Silence
Jairam Ramesh raised questions about PM Modi's silence. He said that when such serious allegations and threats are being made, the Prime Minister should give a clear response. Diplomacy cannot be conducted merely by taking pictures and organizing events. Foreign policy is evaluated by its long-term success, not by applause in public meetings.
