Jalalabad Tehsil in UP Renamed Parshurampuri Following Government Approval

Jalalabad Tehsil in UP Renamed Parshurampuri. Central Government Approves Following CM Yogi's Directive. The move is aimed at recognizing Lord Parshuram's birthplace and boosting tourism.

Lucknow: Jalalabad Tehsil in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh has now been renamed Parshurampuri. The Central Government, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, has approved this name change. The letter regarding this matter was sent to the Principal Secretary of the State by Unnikrishnan, Under Secretary of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. This name change was proposed following the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Main Reason for the Name Change

The primary reason for renaming Jalalabad is that it is considered the birthplace of Lord Parshuram. This region is historically and religiously significant. Three years ago, the government declared it a tourist site and initiated beautification work. After the name change, the importance of this tehsil will increase further, and tourism will be promoted here.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's Directives

In June 2025, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed the administration to rename Jalalabad to Parshurampuri. Subsequently, the administration sent the proposal to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The Chief Minister, emphasizing the religious and cultural significance of this step, stated that it would enhance the region's promotion and boost tourism.

Local Administration and Political Support

A resolution was passed regarding this in the meeting of the Jalalabad Municipal Board on March 24. Following this, the District Magistrate of the district, Dharmendra Pratap Singh, sent a letter to the Principal Secretary of Urban Development on April 16, recommending that the tehsil be named Parshurampuri or Parshuram Dham.

Union Minister of State Jitin Prasad also sent a letter to the Chief Minister, urging for the name change of the region. He stated that naming the tehsil after the birthplace of Lord Parshuram is religiously and culturally significant.
