On Monday, June 16, 2025, thousands of users in Kerala faced significant difficulties with the Jio network. Users were unable to make calls or access the internet. This issue began around 2 PM and lasted approximately 45 minutes.
What Happened to Jio's Network?
This technical snag in Jio services occurred suddenly. Issues such as call drops, mobile data unavailability, and disruptions in Jio Fiber services affected millions of customers in Kerala. According to Downdetector reports, over 11,000 users registered complaints by around 2 PM.

Jio's Official Statement
Reliance Jio's explanation stated that a temporary technical disruption occurred in network services in the Kerala region, which has now been completely resolved. All services are functioning normally. Users should no longer experience any difficulties. As soon as the network went down, users began reacting on the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter).
One user wrote, "Is Jio's network down across Kerala? Is this happening just to us or is everyone experiencing it?" Another user jokingly commented, "Jio's network didn't come, but a deluge of memes certainly did." Some memes questioned Jio's Digital India campaign, while others expressed concern about the state of the telecom sector.
Outage Limited to Kerala or Elsewhere?
Although some social media posts claimed the problem was experienced outside Kerala, Jio's official statement clarified that the outage was limited to Kerala. Journalist Rajesh Abraham also posted on social media, stating, "The Jio network was completely down for about 45 minutes; no calls, no internet working."
What Caused the Disruption?
While Jio hasn't disclosed the technical cause of the outage, experts believe it could be due to a malfunction in a data center or network node. Overloading, fiber cuts, or DNS failures can also cause such outages. In a state like Kerala, where reliance on digital services is constantly increasing, such incidents affect businesses, students, and government services.
