Three children and young women drowned during the Jitiya festival in Bihar while bathing in the Son River (Aurangabad) and a pond in Kaimur district. Grief has spread through the families, and the police are investigating.
Aurangabad: During the Jitiya festival in Bihar, two young women—Sangeeta Kumari and Munni Kumari—drowned while bathing in the Son River. Meanwhile, in the Karmachat police station area of Kaimur district, 11-year-old Khushi Kumari drowned while bathing in the Brahmadeva pond. Both incidents have cast a pall of grief over the families and villages. The police have recovered the bodies, sent them for post-mortem examination, and increased vigilance in the area as a safety measure.
Two Young Women Die While Rescuing Children in Son River
In Dhundhua village, under the Nabinnagar block of Aurangabad district, people had gathered on the banks of the Son River for a bath on the occasion of Jitiya festival on Sunday. According to eyewitnesses, a child bathing in the river lost their footing and began to drift into deep water.
At that moment, two young women—Sangeeta Kumari (18 years) and Munni Kumari (18 years)—jumped into the river to save the child. Although they managed to save the child's life, they were themselves swept away into the deep water by the b current. Villagers made considerable efforts but could not save them.
Grief in the Village Over the Deaths of the Young Women
After hours of strenuous effort by the police and local residents, the bodies of Sangeeta and Munni were recovered from the river. As the bodies were brought out, the heart-wrenching cries of the relatives echoed throughout the village. Villagers and family members are in deep shock.
The NTPC Khaira police and administrative team reached the spot and controlled the situation. Officials stated that the river's current was unusually b at the time of the incident, and caution was not exercised while bathing. This accident highlights the critical importance of safety measures when bathing in rivers during festivals.
One Girl Drowns in a Pond in Kaimur
Meanwhile, in the Karmachat police station area of Rampur block in Kaimur district, a girl also lost her life due to drowning during the Jitiya festival. 11-year-old Khushi Kumari was swept away in the water while bathing in the Brahmadeva Pokhra of Bhitribandh village. She was the daughter of Mithilesh Pandey and the eldest among her four siblings.
With the help of local women, three girls were rescued, but Khushi could not be pulled out of the water. The police sent the body to Bhabua Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. This incident turned the atmosphere of joy into one of mourning throughout the entire village.
