Former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath has made a significant revelation regarding the collapse of the Congress government in 2020. He stated that Jyotiraditya Scindia felt that Digvijaya Singh was running the government, which led to Scindia's rebellion with 22 MLAs.
MP News: Politics in Madhya Pradesh is once again under scrutiny. Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath has made a significant statement regarding the Congress government's fall in 2020, five years after the fact. Kamal Nath stated that Jyotiraditya Scindia felt that the government was being run at the behest of Digvijaya Singh. Due to this discontent, Scindia, along with 22 Congress MLAs, brought down the government. This revelation has once again heated up the state's political arena, as it exposes the internal factionalism and increasing tensions among the leaders within the Congress party.
Digvijaya Singh's Statement
The entire controversy began with a recent statement by senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh. He stated in an MPTAK podcast that the deep differences between Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia were responsible for the fall of the Kamal Nath government in 2020. Digvijaya clarified that these differences were not ideological but personal.
He claimed that he tried several times to mediate between the two leaders and bring about a reconciliation. A dinner meeting was even arranged at an industrialist's house, where an agreement was reached on issues related to the Gwalior-Chambal division, and a 'wishlist' was prepared. Many of Scindia's demands were accepted in this list, but these promises were not fulfilled later.
Kamal Nath's Retort, Advice Not to Repeat Old Matters
Following Digvijaya Singh's statement, Kamal Nath retaliated on social media platform 'X'. He wrote that he does not want to comment much on the matters being discussed regarding the fall of the Congress government in 2020 because there is no benefit in repeating old matters. However, it is true that due to personal ambition and resentment, Jyotiraditya Scindia felt that Digvijaya Singh was running the government. In this anger, he broke away 22 MLAs and left the Congress. After Kamal Nath's statement, the internal strife within the Congress has once again come into the limelight.
Government Formed in 2018, Out of Power in 2020
In the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress won 114 seats and returned to power after 15 years. The BJP got 109 seats. With the support of BSP, SP, and independent MLAs, a government was formed under the leadership of Kamal Nath. However, in March 2020, the situation suddenly changed when Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with his 22 supporter MLAs, left the Congress and joined the BJP. After this, the Kamal Nath government came into the minority, and on March 20, 2020, this government fell. This rebellion by Scindia not only ousted the Congress from power but also changed the direction of the state's politics.
Digvijaya's 'Wishlist' and the Story of Unfulfilled Promises
Digvijaya Singh revealed in his podcast interview that he had prepared a 'wishlist' to build consensus on issues related to the Gwalior-Chambal division. This list included many important points, from development works to local issues. Scindia wanted these promises to be fulfilled on time so that the leaders and the public who supported him would feel that their concerns were being given importance.
Digvijaya said that he himself had signed this list, but when these promises were not fulfilled, the distance between Scindia and the Congress kept increasing. Ultimately, this resentment became the reason for the political rebellion of 2020.
BJP's Attack, Serious Allegations Leveled Against Congress
After the statements of Digvijaya and Kamal Nath, the BJP also launched a scathing attack on the Congress. BJP's state media in-charge Ashish Agarwal said that now the truth has come out in front of everyone. He alleged that the Kamal Nath government was surrounded by mafias and corruption. There was a dominance of misgovernance and disorder throughout the state.
This was the reason why Jyotiraditya Scindia found it right to join the BJP to save the state and take it on the path of development. The BJP says that with Scindia's arrival, a stable and development-oriented government was formed in the state, which could take better decisions for the public.
