Three 7th-grade students in Kanpur ran away from school, driven by a desire to visit Mata Vaishno Devi. Upon reaching Lucknow, they missed their train, after which the police took swift action, safely recovered all three, and handed them over to their families.
Kanpur: The commotion caused by the disappearance of three school girls finally subsided thanks to the swift action of the police. The three friends, who had run away from home with the wish to visit Mata Vaishno Devi, were safely recovered by the police from Lucknow. The students had left home on the pretext of going to school and directly boarded a train. However, with the help of CCTV cameras and the surveillance team, the police tracked their entire journey.
Three Friends Left Home on Pretext of School
The incident took place in Kanpur's Juhi police station area. Kritika, 12-year-old daughter of Seema Singh, a resident of Baradevi Laudhaura, along with her friends Ishika Gupta (12) and Vaishnavi Savita (13), left for school in their school uniforms as usual, but did not reach school that day.
When the school administration informed them about the absence, panic spread among the families. The mothers of the three students started crying and pleading for help outside the police station. The families feared the worst and demanded that the police find their daughters safely. Investigations revealed that the three students arrived at Kanpur Central Station at 8:30 AM. There, they concealed their identity by wearing jackets over their uniforms and departed for Lucknow on the Gorakhpur-Pune Express train.
Plan Formulated with the Desire to Visit Mata Vaishno Devi

Interrogation of school teachers revealed that the three friends had been discussing visiting Jammu & Kashmir and Mata Vaishno Devi for the past few days. They had all jointly planned to leave home on the pretext of going to school.
During their journey, the students took their families' mobile phones with them so they couldn't be tracked. However, police traced their travel location using train CCTV footage and railway ticketing records. Upon reaching Lucknow, the three realized they had missed the train to Jammu, after which they stayed at Charbagh Station for a while and then returned to the station premises.
Major Danger Averted Due to Police Vigilance
Under the instructions of DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary, all police stations were alerted. Surveillance and GRP teams jointly scrutinized footage from Lucknow station. Late at night, Lucknow GRP and Kanpur police conducted a joint operation, safely recovering the three minor students. Officials stated that had the police not acted promptly, a major accident could have occurred due to the girls traveling alone.
