New Delhi: The central government has reported that approximately 2790 Indian citizens have returned to India from the United States since January 2025. All these individuals were residing illegally in the US. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the citizens were brought back to India after their identities and nationalities were verified. This action has been taken to control irregular migration and ensure the safety of citizens.

Citizens Deported from Britain

The Ministry of External Affairs informed that approximately 100 Indian citizens were deported from Britain this year. The British government sent them back after verifying the citizens' nationalities. India maintains a strict stance against irregular migration and advises its citizens to follow legal procedures.

Status of Irregular Migration in the US

Jaiswal stated that over 2790 citizens from the US were residing illegally from January to October. According to data released last month, 2,417 citizens have been deported from the US since January 2025. This action ensures that Indian citizens can reside legally and safely abroad.

Harjeet Kaur's Case

This September, 73-year-old Sikh woman Harjeet Kaur from Punjab was brought back to India from the US. She was detained in California by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. She was repatriated to India after her citizenship was verified. This action reflects India's policy against irregular migration.

India has repeatedly clarified that irregular migration is unacceptable. Citizens are advised to reside and work legally abroad. The Ministry of External Affairs collaborates with the US, Britain, and other countries to control irregular migration.
