A man who fled from a hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur after sustaining a gunshot injury was arrested following a tip-off from his close associate, police said.
According to information, the accused had been admitted to a hospital after being injured in a criminal case, with a gunshot wound to his leg. While undergoing treatment, he managed to escape from the hospital.
After fleeing, the accused approached a close associate to hide. He was reportedly limping and appeared visibly distressed when he arrived, asking the associate to protect him.
On noticing the gunshot injury and assessing the situation, the associate suspected the accused’s involvement in a serious criminal incident. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the associate informed the Crime Branch and shared the accused’s location.
Acting on the information, the Crime Branch team reached the location and arrested the accused. Police took him into custody and initiated further legal proceedings.
Police officials stated that multiple criminal cases had already been registered against the accused, who had been under surveillance for a long time. He was being searched for after his escape from the hospital.
Following the arrest, police are interrogating the accused to determine the circumstances under which he sustained the gunshot injury and to identify others involved. Authorities are also investigating whether he received assistance in escaping from the hospital.
Local residents appreciated the police action and acknowledged the associate’s decision to inform authorities. Experts stated that such incidents demonstrate that individuals involved in crime ultimately face legal consequences.
