Police in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, carried out an operation against cannabis smuggling using drone surveillance to monitor the area before conducting coordinated raids.
According to police, information about cannabis smuggling in the area had been received for some time, following which a special plan was prepared. A team of around 70 police personnel was formed. Prior to the raid, drones were used to monitor the entire area to identify the activities of the smugglers and possible escape routes.
As the operation began, the area was cordoned off from all sides. The sudden raid led the smugglers to attempt to flee, but police pursued and apprehended them. A total of eight individuals, including seven women, were arrested from the spot. Police officials stated that a large quantity of cannabis was recovered from those arrested.
All the accused are currently being interrogated to gather information about others linked to the network.
During the operation, a crowd of local residents gathered at the site, leading to a tense situation for some time. Police, however, maintained control and completed the operation.
Police said the use of drones made the operation easier by providing precise information about the area in advance. Plans are in place to continue using such modern technologies in future operations to curb crime.
Local residents praised the police action and expressed hope that it would help curb illegal activities in the area. Officials stated that the campaign against narcotics trade will continue and no accused will be spared.
