Diwali Sweet Warning: Lucknow Health Dept Cautions Against Adulterated & Chemical-Laden Treats
Last Updated: 4 hour ago

On the occasion of Diwali, the Lucknow Health Department has urged people not to buy excessively colorful sweets.

Many sweet vendors are preparing sweets using chemical colors and adulteration, in violation of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) norms.

The Health Department has warned that consuming these adulterated sweets can cause severe damage to the liver and other organs. They suggest that when purchasing: buy sweets only from trusted shops, gently wipe the sweet with a damp

cloth to check if the color comes off, and one should observe the shop's hygiene, food preparation process, staff cleanliness, etc.

Furthermore, the department also stated that they will review shops and take action if standards are found to be violated — such as maintaining a clean kitchen, separate handling for vegetarian/non-vegetarian items, etc.
