Sultanpur CHC Shaken by Doctor-Pharmacist Altercation, Investigation Underway

A physical altercation between a doctor and pharmacist at Kadipur Community Health Center in Sultanpur has prompted a three-member investigation, raising questions about health department transparency and alleged forced

On Saturday evening, an altercation between a doctor and a pharmacist at the Kadipur Community Health Center (CHC) in Sultanpur district shook the health department. Taking cognizance of the matter, officials have formed a three-member investigation team to probe the incident.

Background of the Incident

The dispute began when a patient needed a prescription. The doctor questioned a medicine prescribed from outside, and Pharmacist Awadhesh Kumar Maurya also responded. The conversation escalated into a physical altercation.

The incident was captured on CCTV. Officials claim that a compromise agreement (settlement document) was signed under duress.

In a written application, the pharmacist stated that he was asked to sign the compromise agreement despite his refusal — he is not satisfied with this action.

Investigation Process and Official Statements

The investigation team includes: Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr. J.C. Saroj, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and District Hospital's Chief Pharmacist Shashikant Mishra.

The team visited the site and recorded statements from Dr. Dipankar Vishwas, Pharmacist Awadhesh Kumar Maurya, CHC Superintendent Dr. Sewaram Yadav, former Superintendent Dr. Mithilesh Verma, and other staff members. The investigation team stated that strict action would be taken if anyone is found guilty.

Significance and Potential Impact

This incident raises questions about the credibility and transparent functioning of the health department. If the investigation confirms that pressure was exerted and the compromise agreement was forced, disciplinary action could be taken against those involved. It has now become even more crucial to define clear roles and responsibilities between the medical system and the pharmacy department.
