A new corridor is planned on Shaheed Path to reduce traffic pressure in Lucknow. The construction of two additional lanes on each side, a cloverleaf interchange, and underpasses are being considered.
Lucknow: In view of the continuously increasing traffic pressure in the capital Lucknow, preparations to further strengthen Shaheed Path have begun. During a recent review meeting of the NHAI, a suggestion was made to build two additional lanes on each side of this important route. The objective of this proposal is to manage the growing vehicle pressure and provide relief to commuters from traffic jams. Along with this, corrective measures are also being considered at the Outer Ring Road, Ayodhya Marg, and several other major highway intersections.
New Corridor to be Built on Shaheed Path
Shaheed Path is considered the most crucial connecting route in the capital. Thousands of vehicles pass through it daily, leading to long traffic jams during morning and evening hours. Keeping this in mind, a proposal came up in the NHAI meeting to construct two additional lanes on each side of this route. This will distribute the traffic load and allow vehicles to move smoothly.
A blueprint is being prepared to develop this new corridor on the lines of a green corridor. Special attention will be given to ensuring that this road can easily handle the increasing traffic in the coming years. This project will not only provide relief to local residents but will also prove to be a great convenience for travelers coming to and from outside the city.
Preparations Underway to Connect Gomti Nagar Terminal to Shaheed Path
A proposal has also been put forth to construct a cloverleaf interchange to directly connect Gomti Nagar Railway Terminal to Shaheed Path. This will eliminate the need for passengers to travel through the city's congested routes to reach the station. This step will save both time and fuel.
There was also a discussion about building an underpass on the other side at the Engineering College intersection, in addition to the already approved ROB. This area experiences heavy traffic pressure daily. If a new underpass is built here, vehicle movement will become easier, and people will get relief from frequent traffic jams.
Incomplete Work at Highway Intersections Increases Problems
The meeting also discussed the perpetual traffic jams at the Outer Ring Road and Ayodhya Marg intersections. Vehicles stuck in long queues here daily obstruct traffic flow. Officials suggested the implementation of signal-free movement and alternative arrangements at these locations.
During the inspection of the Lucknow-Mohan Highway intersection, it was found that the construction of the service road is incomplete and needs to be finished soon. Meanwhile, the cloverleaf interchange under construction at the Kanpur Highway intersection was also reviewed, and emphasis was placed on accelerating the work. These measures will improve traffic management in the outer areas of the capital.
6 Lanes and Elevated Road on Ayodhya Marg
During the meeting, consensus was reached on widening the road on Ayodhya Marg from the High Court complex to Polytechnic Chauraha. A proposal was put forth to extend this section to 6 lanes and build an elevated road across the canal. The aim is to reduce traffic pressure at ground level and provide commuters with an uninterrupted passage.
This project will offer significant relief to people commuting to and from the court, as well as to vehicles passing through the highway. The construction of an elevated road will reduce travel time, alleviate traffic congestion, and enhance road safety. It is also considered a step that will give new momentum to the development of the region.
