The Madhya Pradesh government has accelerated the promotion process for government employees after it resumed following nearly a decade. Around 60,000 officers and employees have already been promoted, while another 35,000 to 40,000 promotions are expected over the next month. Preparations have also begun to complete the 2026 promotion process on schedule.
The state government is expediting the long-pending promotion process for government employees. According to the General Administration Department, approximately 60,000 officers and employees have received promotions so far. The government aims to promote an additional 35,000 to 40,000 employees within the next month to clear pending cases accumulated over the years.
The ongoing promotions are being carried out based on vacancies available as of 1 January 2025. As the promotion process had been affected for nearly a decade, the government is resolving pending cases through Special Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs). The exercise is expected to fill vacant posts across departments and facilitate administrative functioning.
The government has also initiated preparations to ensure that promotions scheduled for next year are completed on time. Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings are being planned for September and October.
According to government officials, these meetings will assess vacancies expected to be available by 1 January 2026. The objective is to ensure that recently promoted employees and officers eligible for higher posts do not face unnecessary delays in the next round of promotions.
To ensure the promotion process remains time-bound, all departments have been directed to keep the required documentation ready in advance. These include employees' confidential reports (ACRs) for the previous five years, vigilance clearance and other administrative formalities.
All promotions issued by the government will remain subject to the final decision of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Petitions challenging the Promotion Rules, 2025 are currently being heard by the Jabalpur High Court, and the legal status of these promotions will be determined after the court delivers its final judgment.
Meanwhile, considering the sensitivity of the matter, General Administration Department Additional Secretary Ajay Katesaria has been prevented from assuming a new assignment for the time being. He is overseeing the promotion process and coordinating its administrative and legal aspects.
According to the government, timely promotions are expected to improve employee morale, reduce vacancies across departments and enhance administrative efficiency. However, the validity of these promotions will ultimately depend on the High Court's final decision.
