The thunderous roar of 'Mahavatar Narasimha' has truly created a buzz at the Indian box office. This animated film, released in five languages (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam), may have started slowly, but its earnings have now surprised everyone.
Entertainment: For the first time in the history of Indian cinema, an animated film has achieved something that no one expected. 'Mahavatar Narasimha' has surprised everyone by grossing ₹113 crore at the box office in just 13 days since its release. This film, produced under the banner of Hombale Films, has not only surpassed 'Sayyara' in terms of profit but has also left behind 'Son of Sardar 2' and 'Dhadak 2'.
'Mahavatar Narasimha' Becomes the First Indian Animated Film to Earn ₹100 Crore
'Mahavatar Narasimha' has the distinction of being India's first animated film to join the ₹100 crore club. The film was released in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. While it initially earned only ₹1.75 crore on its first day, its total collection after 13 days has now reached ₹112.80 crore.
Surpasses 'Sayyara' in ROI, 652% Profit
Made on a budget of ₹15 crore, 'Mahavatar Narasimha' has earned a net profit of ₹97.80 crore in just 13 days. Its Return on Investment (ROI) is 652%. On the other hand, 'Sayyara', made on a budget of ₹45 crore, may have earned ₹306.48 crore in 20 days, but its ROI was 580%, which is less than that of 'Mahavatar Narasimha'.
The film is directed by Ashwin Kumar and is the first film in the 'Mahavatar Cinematic Universe'. This franchise will present six more films based on other incarnations of Lord Vishnu in the future. Hombale Films, which has produced blockbuster films like 'KGF', 'Kantara', and 'Salaar', is now moving towards bringing mythological tales to the global stage through animation.
Interestingly, the Hindi version of the film has earned the most. In 13 days, the film has earned ₹82.80 crore from the Hindi market. While the remaining four languages have collected a total of around ₹30 crore. This trend has now become common in South Indian films. For example, 'KGF 2' earned ₹859.70 crore in India, out of which ₹435.33 crore was from the Hindi version alone. Similarly, 'Pushpa 2' earned ₹812.14 crore in Hindi.
'Son of Sardar 2' and 'Dhadak 2' in Poor Condition
While 'Mahavatar Narasimha' is achieving great success, on the other hand, two major Bollywood films, 'Son of Sardar 2' and 'Dhadak 2', are struggling at the box office.
- 'Son of Sardar 2' (Budget ₹100 crore): Earned only ₹31.50 crore in 6 days.
- 'Dhadak 2' (Budget ₹45 crore): Business of only ₹15.40 crore in 6 days.
Both these films have received mixed reactions from the audience, and there has been a continuous decline in audience attendance on weekdays. Although the film has performed brilliantly in 13 days, it may face a challenge from major films like 'War 2' and 'Coolie', which are going to be released on August 14.
