SIR Row: Politics over the ongoing voter list revision process across the country is not showing any signs of stopping. After Bihar, the dispute over this issue is now intensifying in other states as well. The opposition is continuously questioning the central Modi government and the Election Commission. In this context, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has taken a b stance, directly attacking the central government and the BJP.
Addressing a rally of the Trinamool Congress's (TMC) student wing in Kolkata, Mamata Banerjee stated that she would not let anyone snatch away people's voting rights. She accused the BJP of deploying over 500 teams in Bengal with the objective of removing names from the voter list.
Mamata: Voters Must Verify Their Names Themselves
During her address at the rally, Mamata Banerjee appealed to the public to personally verify their voter list and ensure that their names have not been removed. She said, "As long as I am alive, I will not let anyone snatch away people's voting rights." CM Banerjee also criticized the Election Commission, stating that the commission is threatening state government officials.
She asserted that the Election Commission's authority is limited to three months before elections, not throughout the year. Mamata alleged that the BJP is trying to make people forget the role played by Bengalis in the freedom struggle. She questioned that if the Bengali language did not exist, in what language would the national anthem and national song have been written? She termed this as "linguistic terrorism" and stated that her government would never tolerate it.
Mamata Banerjee Also Targets Veer Savarkar
During her speech, Mamata Banerjee also targeted Veer Savarkar without naming him. Describing Savarkar as an "agent of the British," she accused him of giving assurances to the British to secure his release from prison. This statement was part of her attack on the BJP. Mamata Banerjee cornered the central government on the issue of corruption, stating that while her government has implemented numerous social welfare schemes, the BJP government is merely indulging in corruption in the name of development.
She remarked, "We have launched the Laxmi Bhandar scheme for women, while the BJP has a corruption bhandar (storehouse)." Furthermore, she accused the center of nepotism and looting the country.
