Manipur Police and security forces conducted coordinated operations across multiple districts on July 26 and 27 as part of efforts to strengthen law and order and curb insurgent activities. Five active members of banned insurgent organisations were arrested in separate operations, while a stolen scooter was recovered and two suspects were taken into custody.
On July 27, Manipur Police conducted a raid in the Nungu Lamkhai area under Sugnu Police Station in Kakching district and arrested two active members of the banned organisation SOREPA. The accused were identified as Markus Thiyam alias Tompok (22) and Haikrijam William Meitei (22), both residents of Khongyam Makha Leikai in Kakching district. According to police, both had been under surveillance for suspected involvement in the organisation's activities for an extended period. Their network and suspected activities are being examined during questioning.
On the same day, Kakching Police detained two individuals during checks at a mobile checkpoint on Chandel Road. The detainees were identified as Mohammad Ejaz (19) and Mohammad Mujibur Rahman (23), both residents of Sora Mamang Leikai. During the search, police recovered a red Honda Activa 125 Disc scooter without a registration number from their possession. Police said the scooter had previously been reported stolen from the MG Avenue area of Imphal. The vehicle has been seized, and both suspects are being questioned regarding the vehicle theft network.
Also on July 27, police arrested an active member of the banned RPF/PLA, Yendrembam Athouba Meitei alias Atomba alias Takhelangba (21), in a separate operation. He is a resident of Moreh Premnagar Ward No. 4 in Tengnoupal district. Police arrested him from an abandoned house at New Lambulane under Porompat Police Station in Imphal. Security agencies said his activities and role within the organisation are under investigation, and questioning is expected to provide information about other members and the organisation's network.
In another operation, police arrested Yensenbam Chandrasen Meitei alias Pase (52), an active member of KCP (MFL) and an alleged extortionist. He was taken into custody from the Langdum Lamkhai area under Irilbung Police Station. Police alleged that he had been involved in extortion and other illegal activities for a prolonged period. The investigation is continuing to determine his links with other individuals and organisations.
On July 26, security forces arrested Khoisnam Naoba Singh (29) alias Wanglen, an active member of KCP (PWG), during a joint operation. He is a resident of Ngamapal Phougesangbam Leikai in Imphal West district. He was detained near the RIMS Gate under Lamphel Police Station. According to police, further legal proceedings are underway, and he is being questioned regarding the organisation's activities.
Security agencies have been conducting sustained operations against insurgent organisations, illegal arms, extortion and other criminal activities in Manipur. According to police, the objective is to maintain peace and law and order and ensure the safety of citizens. Patrolling and intelligence surveillance have been strengthened in sensitive areas, while coordination among different agencies has been enhanced.
All those arrested are being questioned in connection with separate cases. Investigating agencies are examining their links with other individuals and organisations and whether they were part of a larger network. Security officials said such operations will continue and strict action will be taken against activities that challenge law and order. Police and security forces said they remain on alert while conducting operations to maintain peace in the state.
