Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, after being released from house arrest on Saturday, visited the Sopore residence of Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat and offered condolences to his family. Bhat had passed away on Wednesday night.
Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was released on Saturday after three days of house arrest. Immediately after his release, he reached Sopore, where he visited the home of the recently deceased senior Hurriyat leader and educationist, Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, to express his profound condolences to his family. Prof. Gani Bhat had passed away on Wednesday night, but Mirwaiz was unable to attend his funeral due to his house arrest. After his release, he described Bhat as his "guide, affectionate elder, and dear friend," calling his demise a personal loss.
Permission Granted After House Arrest
A statement issued by the Mirwaiz's office said that Umar Farooq was allowed to leave after three days of house arrest. Following this, he went to Sopore to meet the family of the late leader and offer Fatiha-Khwani. According to the statement, Mirwaiz prayed for the family to be granted patience and strength, and stated that Bhat's legacy of peace and dialogue would continue to inspire future generations.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stated in his address, "The passing of Professor Abdul Gani Bhat is a great personal loss for me. He was not only my guide but also an affectionate elder and a dear friend." He expressed regret that he could not attend the funeral due to his house arrest. He added that Gani Bhat's life was a symbol of dialogue, restraint, and positive thinking.

Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat was known in the Valley as a respected educationist, scholar, and political visionary. He always advocated for progress through dialogue and peaceful means.
