Monsoon Relief Expected in Punjab, Jammu, and UP; Delhi Faces Heavy Rain

Amidst the fierce intensity of the monsoon, people in Punjab, Jammu, and Uttar Pradesh are likely to find some relief on September 5. According to the Meteorological Department, while skies will remain cloudy in most districts of these states, the possibility of rain is expected to be low.

Weather: The monsoon's fury continues across the country. Although parts of Punjab, Jammu, and Uttar Pradesh may experience some respite from rain starting September 5, heavy rain alerts have been issued for Delhi and Bihar. Meanwhile, residents of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh may also face difficulties such as heavy rainfall and landslides.

Relief in Punjab and Jammu, but flood havoc continues

According to the Meteorological Department, skies will be cloudy in most areas of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir from September 5, but the intensity of rain is expected to weaken. In Punjab, floods have so far claimed 37 lives, and approximately 1400 villages are submerged. NDRF teams are actively engaged in relief operations in the affected areas.

There is a possibility of light snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg. Additionally, several road routes, including the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, have been damaged, bridges have suffered damage, and hundreds of houses have collapsed. Many villages have had to be evacuated.

Situation in Delhi remains grim

Rain continues unabated in Delhi. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is expected in the capital for the next three days. Low-lying areas of the city are facing flood-like conditions. Waterlogging has occurred in Badarpur, Nigam Bodh Ghat, Khadar, Garhi Mandu, Purana Usmanpur, Monastery, Yamuna Bazaar, Vishwakarma Colony, and Pradhan Garden located in Yamuna Khadar. Local administration has appealed to the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Heavy rain alert in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar

The weather is expected to improve in most districts of Uttar Pradesh from September 5, with temperatures remaining normal. However, a heavy rainfall alert has been issued for districts bordering Delhi, such as Ghaziabad, Noida (Gautam Buddh Nagar), and Baghpat. Local administration has urged people to exercise caution in their homes and surrounding areas.

A warning of moderate to heavy rainfall has been issued for the northern parts of Bihar on September 5. Heavy rainfall is anticipated in Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Vaishali, Begusarai, Khagaria, Saharsa, Madhepura, and Supaul. These districts also face the risk of lightning strikes and thunderstorms. People are advised to stay alert and seek safe locations.

Rainfall and landslides are expected to persist in several areas of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Consequently, residents and tourists there are advised to exercise caution. The administration has appealed to local residents and travellers to adopt safety measures.
