Mumbai on Alert: Heavy Rainfall Disrupts Life, High Tide Warning Issued

The weather has once again taken a turn for the worse in Mumbai and its surrounding areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for Mumbai and Thane, and a Red alert for Raigad district for Friday, July 25th. Continuous rainfall is expected to disrupt daily life. Several low-lying areas are already waterlogged, and the BMC has appealed to people to avoid visiting the coast due to the potential for high tides.

Waterlogging Disrupts Traffic

The heavy rainfall has also affected the local trains, considered the lifeline of Mumbai. According to Central Railway, local trains on the main line are running 10 to 12 minutes late, and Harbour line trains are delayed by 7 to 8 minutes. Train speeds have been reduced for safety and due to low visibility. According to an ANI report, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the low-lying areas of Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar in the next few hours. In the last 24 hours, Mankhurd recorded 28 mm of rainfall, Nariman Point 26 mm, while CSMT and Mulund recorded 21 mm.

Possibility of Heavy Rainfall in Several Areas

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in Mumbai and its suburbs on July 25 is likely to be around 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 23 degrees Celsius. The sky will remain cloudy throughout the day, and some areas may experience very heavy rainfall late at night or early in the morning. The Meteorological Department has advised citizens to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.

High Tide Alert: Stay Away from Coastal Areas During These Times

The BMC has strictly advised people to stay away from beaches under the three-day high tide schedule.

July 25 – 12:40 PM, 4.66 meters

July 26 – 1:20 PM, 4.67 meters

July 27 – 1:56 PM, 4.60 meters

During these times, sea waves will be high, which could increase the risk in coastal areas. The BMC has appealed to people not to visit the seashore.

Avoid Trekking in the Western Ghats

A warning of extremely heavy rainfall has been issued for the Mumbai-Pune Western Ghat regions between July 25 and 27. The Meteorological Department has advised travelers and trekkers to avoid traveling to the Ghat region during this period. Due to the pressure area and rain bands formed near the sea, b winds can blow at a speed of 60–70 km/h. Meanwhile, an underpass in the Andheri East area of Mumbai has been temporarily closed due to waterlogging.
