The nation is celebrating the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26, 2025. This day not only symbolizes India's military victory but also the immortal saga of those brave soldiers who defended the country's borders by fighting enemies on the high peaks of Kargil in 1999. To make this year's Kargil Vijay Diwas even more special, the Indian Army is launching three significant digital and physical projects aimed at taking the heroic tales of the martyrs to every corner of the country.
What is the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas?
The Kargil War was fought between India and Pakistan during May-July 1999. The Pakistani army, disguised as infiltrators, tried to occupy Indian territory, but Indian soldiers drove them out under 'Operation Vijay'. On July 26, India formally declared victory. Since then, this day has been celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas every year.
E-Shraddhanjali Portal: Pay homage to heroes from home
This year, the Indian Army is launching the 'E-Shraddhanjali Project,' which will enable countrymen to pay tribute to the martyrs digitally from their homes. On this online platform, citizens will be able to read about the names and contributions of the martyrs and pay them virtual tribute. According to army officials, the purpose of this initiative is to make the youth and citizens understand that the army not only fights wars but also sets an example of sacrifice, service, and dedication. This portal will be a bridge for those who are unable to visit a memorial to pay their respects.
QR Code Based Audio Application: War stories now on mobile
The second project is a QR code-based audio application. This is an innovative initiative in which anyone can scan the QR codes placed at memorials, schools, museums, and tourist places and listen to the stories of the Kargil War on their mobile phones. This application will feature voices and glimpses of valor from battles like Tololing, Tiger Hill, Batalik Sector, and the Dras region. Through this technological initiative, the younger generation will be able to deeply experience the seriousness of the war and the courage of the army.
Indus Viewpoint: Access to LOC for the general public
The third initiative is 'Indus Viewpoint,' which will be located in the Batalik sector of the Kargil district. This site will allow the general public to go up to the Line of Control (LoC) so that they can see in which inaccessible and dangerous areas our soldiers are stationed. Located at an altitude of about 10,000 feet, Batalik was one of the major battlefields of the Kargil War. Despite the harsh climate and geographical conditions here, Indian soldiers fought with bravery. Now this place is also being developed from the point of view of tourism, which will strengthen both patriotism and curiosity.
Army's Objective: To make heroic tales public tales
The main objective of these three projects is to take the bravery of the martyrs not only to memorials but to the hearts and mobiles of every Indian. The army wants today's youth to understand and adopt the sacrifices of soldiers fighting for the country not only from books but also from technology and experience. An officer said, 'Our endeavor is that every citizen of the country should feel the experience associated with the martyrs, whether it is a digital tribute, an audio story of the war, or a glimpse of the LOC from the hills of Batalik.'
Confluence of Tourism, Technology and Patriotism
Through these schemes, the Indian Army is working to connect patriotism, modern technology, and military history together. This will not only honor the martyrs but also promote military tourism, which will provide economic benefits to the local people and strengthen national unity.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is no longer just a historical date; it has become a sensitive experience, which the countrymen can keep alive in both their hearts and the digital world. Through these three projects of the army, India will now give not just remembrance but an active tribute to its heroes — with the confluence of technology and consciousness.
