Voting is underway for councillor posts in seven wards of the Narendra Nagar Municipal Council in Tehri under the general municipal elections. BJP candidate Rajendra Vikram Singh Panwar has already been elected unopposed as chairperson. A total of 3,596 voters are now exercising their franchise to decide the political future of councillor candidates across the wards.
The contest for the chairperson's post was settled earlier after the nomination of Congress candidate Rajendra Singh Gusain was rejected, resulting in BJP candidate and former municipal chairperson Rajendra Vikram Singh Panwar being declared elected unopposed.
With the chairperson election concluded, attention has shifted to the councillor elections. Necessary arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful polling across all seven wards.
Polling began at 8 a.m. in the seven wards of the municipal area. Candidates from various political parties and independents are in the fray. In Ward No. 1, Kinwani, candidates from the Congress, BJP and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal are contesting, while in the remaining wards the primary contest is between the Congress and the BJP.
Voters have been arriving at polling stations since the morning. According to election officials, the voting process is being conducted peacefully in accordance with prescribed rules.
A total of 3,596 voters are registered across the seven wards of Narendra Nagar Municipal Council, including 1,623 women and 1,973 men. These voters will determine the fate of the candidates contesting for councillor posts.
After polling concludes, the ballot boxes will be kept secure and votes will be counted on June 11. Results for all wards will be declared the same day, making it clear which party will have greater representation in the Municipal Council.
According to the schedule set by the Election Commission, counting of votes cast in all seven wards will take place on June 11. Following completion of the counting process, the winning councillors will be officially declared.
