The Madras High Court has dismissed petitions for a NEET UG 2025 re-exam and lifted the stay on the result announcement. The NTA will soon release the results on neet.nta.nic.in.
NEET UG 2025: The Madras High Court dismissed petitions filed regarding the NEET UG 2025 examination, paving the way for the announcement of results. The court stated that the petitions lacked merit and the demand for a re-exam was unreasonable.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will soon release the NEET UG 2025 results on its official website, neet.nta.nic.in. Millions of students who appeared for the exam can now await their results.
The Issue: Why was a Re-exam Demanded?
The NEET UG examination was conducted on May 4, 2025, with approximately 22.7 lakh candidates participating. The exam was held across 557 cities in India at 4750 exam centers, and in 14 centers abroad.
Power outages occurred at four exam centers in Chennai during the examination. Consequently, some students filed petitions in the Madras High Court demanding a re-exam. They argued that the power cuts reduced illumination, affecting their performance.
Court's Reasoning: How to Re-examine 22 Lakh Students?
Justice C. Kumarappan of the Madras High Court clearly stated that conducting a re-exam was not feasible, especially with over 22 lakh students involved. He noted that some technical issues are inherent in large-scale examinations, but these were not significant enough to warrant a nationwide re-exam.
Justice Kumarappan also added that the exam was held from 2 PM to 5 PM, when natural light was available, thus minimizing the impact of reduced illumination.
Court Trusts NTA's Report
The court accepted the NTA's report, which detailed a thorough evaluation of the Chennai centers and concluded scientifically that a re-exam was unnecessary. The court stated that the NTA's process should not be questioned unless there was evidence of malice.
