Parliament Adjourned Amid Opposition Protests Over Key Issues

Following opposition uproar in Parliament on Thursday, proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned until 2 PM. The opposition demanded an adjournment motion under Rule 267.

Parliament Protest: Both houses of Parliament witnessed significant disruptions on Thursday. Members of Parliament from opposition parties protested against the government in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha over various issues. Due to the uproar, proceedings in both houses were adjourned until 2 PM.

Opposition MPs Reached Lok Sabha with Slogans and Placards

During Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, opposition MPs entered the well of the house with slogans and placards. This disrupted the proceedings. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla told the opposition MPs, "Did the public elect you to chant slogans and display placards? Parliament is for discussion and dialogue, where the aspirations of the people are expressed." However, the opposition did not relent, and subsequently, the Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned until 2 PM.

Uproar in Rajya Sabha Too, Clash Over Rule 267

The situation in the Rajya Sabha was no different. Deputy Chairman Harivansh stated that the opposition was demanding an adjournment motion under Rule 267, which was rejected by the Chairman. Following this, the opposition started a significant uproar, and the house proceedings were adjourned until 2 PM.

Sonia Gandhi Also Joined the Protest

On Thursday, Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, also joined the protest by the INDIA alliance MPs. She showed solidarity with the MPs at the 'Makar Dwar' in the Parliament complex. The opposition's protest was against the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign in Bihar and the arrest of laborers in BJP-ruled states.

Two Important Bills to be Introduced by the Government Today

Despite the uproar, two important bills are scheduled for discussion in the Rajya Sabha today.

1 Proposal to Extend President's Rule in Manipur

Home Minister Amit Shah will introduce a resolution in the Rajya Sabha seeking permission to extend the President's Rule in Manipur by six months from August 13, 2025. This resolution falls under Article 356 of the Constitution.

2 The Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, 2025

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, will introduce the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, 2025, in the Rajya Sabha for consideration and passage. This bill has already been passed in the Lok Sabha and clarifies the responsibilities, rights, liabilities, and exemptions related to maritime freight.
